I was very impressed with how Joe Day has developed since leaving Bishops. Last night was my first time coming into full speaking contact with him since 2005. The phrase 'holy-shit-he's-hot' doesn't quite cover it. He's now around the same height as me, as slender as he ever was and with a glorious mess of unkempt hair. I was annoyed when I walked into his room therefore.
In my room there are many pictures that have breasts in, the majority of them though are nothing more visually than lumps on a female character's chest for the sake of distinguishing between genders. Seeing the sort of pictures that Joe had on his bedroom walls that weren't guitars (guitar pics outnumbered the others by miles) though still makes my skin crawl.
Despite the tragic wall hangings though, the lack of any copies of Maxim, Nuts, Front, FHM, Zoo etc, etc in favour of Total Guitar, Bike Trader and several intellegent podcasts (and a Macbook) gave me heart that Joe had progressed to the stage where he had become an interesting person. He is very much an interesting person and a civilised one. He has his squicks, a conversation between me and Jack about the location and purpose of the legendary prostate gland went over the line slightly. He does however know when someone's joking. I got the whole non-issue (I wish) of my preferences and changes since the Bishops days out the way soon enough (well Jack did) and some casual joke flirting in the pub soon after even got a wry smile from him.
A lot of my old school friends have changed since leaving Bishops in 2005. Some for the better, some unimaginably for the worse. Joe has definately changed for the better, he's courteous and hasn't lost sight of reality. Add to that his ability to drink alcohol sensibly and he's pretty much evolved into my kind of person. Of all my old friends, he's the one I want to hang around with a lot more.
